Google Analytics 4 & Google Tag Manager for e-commerce


To optimize your online shop there is no way around measuring and analyzing the user´s interactions with your online shop. The most common tool for this task is Google Analytics which will only be available as Google Analytics 4 from 01/07/2023 onwards.

With the new version Google changed the concept of tracking fundamentally since everything in GA4 is event based. At first this means for you as a user that you need to put some effort into configuration and analysis when starting to use GA4. At the same time the new tracking concept offers a much higher flexibility and potential for customizing. On top, you get a free of charge Google BigQuery integration which was prior only available to enterprise customers. With Google BigQuery you gain full control over how you analyze your data and how long you want to keep the data. In combination with Google Tag Manager most tracking requirements can be met without the necessity to change the source code.
